Grading & Assignments
Academic grades may be based on a variety of assignments; class notes, reflections, close reading activities, vocabulary, writing assignments, research projects, art pieces, quizzes and exams. We use the IB grading system in our class, which is based on the four assessment criteria noted above. The table below illustrates the correlation between the 8 point IB Criterion-Based grading system and the letter grade your student will receive on their progress reports and report cards.
# grade Letter grade Percentage
4 /7-8 A 87 to 100% Advanced
3 /5-6 B 62 to 86% Proficient
2 /3-4 C 37 to 61% Basic

Progress Reports: Progress reports will be issued every six to seven weeks to keep parents informed of their student’s progress in the course. Academic grades in this class will be based on a student’s performance in the following assignment categories: IB assessments & projects, classwork & homework (accommodations will be made based on individual needs). Citizenship grades will be based on a student’s compliance with the classroom expectations and the standards outlined in the Rough Rider Citizenship Rubric.
PowerSchool Portal: Parents may also monitor their child’s academic progress in class more frequently using the PowerSchool online, grade-book resource, which can be accessed through Roosevelt’s website.

Homework Policy: Students will occasionally be assigned work that must be completed independently at home and returned the following day in class. Time will usually be provided to begin these assignments in class. Work not completed in class will automatically become homework. Homework help is available by appointment before or after school for those students who need assistance. If a student misses class for any reason, including an unavoidable excused absence, it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with me to make up missing assignments.
Google Classroom: Please login to our Google Classroom website on a regular basis to access classroom announcements, assignment, and other resources online.
